A couple of weeks ago I gave a talk about Deep Futures, at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. It's now available online. In the talk I discuss the need to deepen our view of the future to acknowledge a broader range of human experience, and move beyond what I call Money and Machines futures. The talk includes a discussion of the changing nature of human intelligence, as well as the idea of a non-local intelligence, or Integrated Intelligence. I also link this into the futures of digital technology.
The first five minutes or so is an introduction by Dr Luke van der Laan of USQ. Here's the link:

Interesting talk Marcus.I liked how you bought up your U.F.O sighting after the tarot card reading, not a lot of lecturers would be so straightforward about sharing their experience with a roomful of strangers.I find it hard enough sharing my experiences and thoughts on a semi-anonymous blog with like minded people, little alone with strangers.
ReplyDeleteI admire your courage.
Just playing the fool, Daz! Prococation is part of what I do, to stir people out of their comfort zones. I suppose it does take some courage, and the truth is that it has led to a lot of rejection in academic circles. But one has to stay true to one's purpose!
ReplyDeleteThere's a great book called The Spirituality Revolution, by David Tacey. I think you saw him speak at the Byron Bay Wrirter's Festival. He's been running spirituality courses in an arts programme at La Trobe University for a while. The book outlines his philosophy and experience. He says students are hungry for spirituality, and his courses have been very successful. I am now designing my own course (Deep Futures), and I am going to see if I can get it into a university somewhere. It will not shy away from the spiritual aspect of the future.
That should be "Provocation is part of what I do"! Well, at least I didn't type "procreation"!
