Time, Space, Will and Synchronicity

http://www.proetcontra.com/wp-content/uploads/synchronicity.jpg

Thanks to Anita Moorjani posting the link on her Facebook page, yesterday's blog post about her wonderful book Dying to be Me, created quite a stir. There were a few fascinating and important things about the experience - and the great reaction to the blog post - that I thought I would write about today.

For those who didn't read through the comments below yesterday's post, there was another fascinating occurrence yesterday which only confirmed what I have been writing and speaking about all these years: that mind and cosmos are intimately linked, and that mainstream science has got it hopelessly wrong in its understanding of who we are as human beings and where we fit in the greater scheme of things.

I wrote the post about Anita late (by my standards) on Sunday night, the same day I met her. I normally go to bed by 11.00 pm, because I have to get up by 6.00 am to commute to work. But that night I felt very relaxed and energised, so I decided to write of my synchronicity in meeting Anita, beginning around my normal bedtime. I completed it still feeling relaxed and barely tired, but went to bed to try to get a decent six hours of sleep.

Early  Monday morning at around 5.00 am I had a vision as I was sleeping. At the age of 26 (twenty years ago) I began having regular visions and prophetic dreams. This coincided with my new habit of meditating and recording dreams and intuitions. Ever since that time, such visionary experiences have been a regular part of my daily life (I give a semi-autobiographical account of how this happened in my brand new e-novel Shadow Light). Visions have a slightly different quality from dreams, and tend to be very short - often just a flash of insight, or even a mere symbol which is 'embedded' with information which is telepathically "transmitted" without words. At least that is how I experience many of them.

In my early morning vision yesterday I saw a friend of mine standing before a huge computer screen - Doug Seiddon, the transpersonal psychologist I mentioned in yesterday's post. There was a vertical white bar of 'energy' on the right-hand side of the screen, and it began to expand upwards, beginning near the bottom of the screen, then shooting upwards towards the top. The energy was white luminescent, quite bright to look at. The screen looked like the image at the top of this blog - the guy standing in front of the earth (but in this case the man was Doug). I intuitively knew that the white bar of energy represented traffic on a web site - this blog. I felt slightly apprehensive, as I wondered whether the increased 'attention' might attract some negative posters (this happened in a previous viral 'hit'). As he stood there examining the bar of light (in the vision) Doug said; "This is because of something you wrote."

I awoke immediately. I knew that in the dream Doug represented the mystical side of the cosmos (he is a transpersonal psychologist, after all!).

Around 1.00 pm yesterday, I opened my blog and went to the 'design' section to check on web traffic. I was not overly surprised to discover that instead of the 10-20 hits I normally get for a blog post within the first 24 hours of posting, the blog post about Anita had already received 400 odd hits in only half a day (In fact the post has now gotten 1400 hits so far, and this blog got a total of 1800 hits yesterday, massively above the average 180-200!)

The fascinating thing for me is that, as far as I am aware, Anita did not share the link to the post till sometime late morning, several hours after I had the vision. If Anita reads this, perhaps she can confirm the timing. (Edit: Anita has confirmed that she didn't post the link till about 11.00 am - six hours after the vision)

The vision was therefore a precognition of a significant event that was about to unfold in my day. It is interesting to note that so much of what Anita learned during her NDE mirrors perfectly what I (and many others) have come to understand from developing Integrated Intelligence, or INI (my term for spiritual intuition - see my book Discover Your Soul Template if you are interested in developing INI). Time is not the simple linear concept that we often assume it to be; and mind is not confined to the head. Human beings are perfectly capable of sensing connections in other places and times - just as Anita did during her NDE. You don't actually need to die to access this ability! Not everyone will experience it the way I do though. My brain is very visual and auditory. I also developed the 'feeling' aspect of INI through many years of practice, and thanks to having the privilege of working with some wonderful spiritual teachers.

There is one more important point I would like to make about yesterday's synchronicity in meeting Anita. A few people leaving comments suggested that I had "willed" the event into existence. Actually, this is not true. I made no attempt to create the meeting with Anita at any time. When I wrote that I had been imagining the spontaneous meeting with her in the days leading up to the the actual meeting, I was not trying to do anything. This imagined scenario was coming into my mind regularly as a kind of daydream (at least 3 times, I recall). There was an element of 'desire' - perhaps 'excitement' is a better word - with the scenario, but I wasn't trying to create it, or manifest it as some New Age law-of-attraction philosophies might suggest is possible.

The last time the scenario came to me was Saturday night (the night before I met Anita), when I met two of my friends, Doug Seiddon and Alick Lau in a Hong Kong Central restaurant for dinner. We had agreed to meet at a Chinese restaurant, but when we got there we decided to make a late change to an Indian restaurant. When we arrived at the Indian restuarant and started eating, I began to 'feel' that Anita was close by. I actually looked around the restaurant to see if she was there!

Rather than my creating the event, I think what was happening was that I was sensing an important upcoming connection. Time was collapsing in on itself - in a sense - and I was already experiencing the energy of the upcoming meeting with her, still about sixteen hours away.

This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened to me. I have had numerous precognitions in the past. The first similar one I recall was about twenty years ago when I was walking down the street in Grafton, New South Wales, Australia. I was merely passing through the town at the time. As I was walking down the main street I looked up and saw a man walking towards me. For some reason I thought he was Warren, a guy who had lived on my wing of the University of Newcastle campus hall of residence some five years previously. When the man got closer, I saw it wasn't Warren. It struck me that it was truly bizarre that I had thought it was Warren, as I barely knew the guy, and hadn't thought of him even once in the preceding five years. But what happened next was even more bizarre. I walked around a corner, and down a street, and on a whim decided to pop into a little clothes shop. I was shocked to see Warren buying a shirt at the counter! I went over to him, and even mentioned how I'd just been thinking of him!

Again, I think this was simply a case of the mind drawing in information - and especially emotional energy - from the 'future.' When an event has special emotional or spiritual importance, the intuitions will be stronger.

It's a wonderful and mysterious universe we live in. There is so much we don't know or understand. I suggest we all relax and just enjoy living here!

Can We See the Future?

Recently I wrote an article for Suprconsciousness Magazine, answering the question of  whether we can see into the future. Below you can read the beginning of the article. To read the rest, click on the page link, above.

When I tell people that I am a futurist, the first question people typically ask is, “What is going to happen in the future?” In fact, prediction is not really a key element of the academic discipline of Futures Studies, and most futurists stick to the position that the future is ultimately unknowable. Instead, most futurists like to engage in scenario work, where they attempt to contend with the issues and problems related to several possible paths which may unfold. Another process is horizon scanning, where futurists gather together as much data as they can about a particular issue, and then extrapolate the possible and probable futures which appear to be emerging. All this involves standard logical and rational ways of knowing, and the processes are conducted in normal states of consciousness. To do otherwise would invite the possibility of ridicule and the questioning of one’s professional credibility. Such is the nature of dominant culture in science and the professional/corporate world.

I am, thus, a little unusual for a futurist in that I am also a mystic. Besides writing and researching, and gaining the preferred academic qualifications (a PhD), I also spent many years working on the intuitive and emotional dimensions of mind. It’s not so easy to develop both the intellect and the psyche, as the cognitive skills required are completely different. Most academics have little or no understanding of the deeper mind, except at an intellectual level. This makes my attempts at communicating insights gleaned at a first-person experiential level quite difficult. Many in mainstream culture are quite hostile to the attempt.

Which brings me to the question, “Can we see the future?” To answer this, I am not going to refer to philosophical arguments or empirical evidence, but to personal insight. The answer is, “Yes, we can sense the future, although it may not be an inevitable future.” My understanding is that we can sense our possible futures.

On Not Knowing Crap

My second last post was about NOT knowing. Not knowing is very freeing. The ego always wants to know. It wants closure, certainty, definitive answers. Those of you who have used spiritual guidance, have you ever noticed that the 'answers' from Spirit are often ambiguous?

The truth is that in many ways Spirit prefers that we do not know the answers, as opposed to knowing what's going to happen.

There's a certain state of being that Bashar calls the limbo state (check out the YouTube videos). This is basically where you are hanging in space, waiting to connect with whatever unfolds next. Maybe you have made a commitment to a project, or taken certain actions, and then you are waiting for the next thing to unfold. The ego wants to know what's going down. It wants a guarantee. But really, what do you know? I mean, really know? The answer is "not much."

After the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, a certain mystic, much more famous and successful than I, came out and boasted "I told you so!" He had, at some point in the last decade or so, made a prediction about an earthquake in Japan.  Apparently he had seen it in a vision, God knows how many years ago.

Why do mystics always want to predict the future? It seems they want validation of their mystical powers at the level of ego. Here, I predicted the drought in Australia! Look, there were tornadoes in the mid west! A world leader died! There was an earthquake in Japan, look how damn brilliant I am!

Why do I mention this? A few weeks ago I heard about a job going at an Australian university. Immediately I got the strongest intuition that this job was meant for me. I applied, and after I submitted my CV, I had the strongest conviction that the energy was 100% open. This was meant to be.

Guess what happened? Well, I got an interview, just as expected. The online interview was fine (although I think I could have done better). After the interview I was told that they were interviewing all the following week, so it would be at least a week before I heard anything from them.

It's now a week later. It's Saturday evening, and all things being equal, I will know the result on Monday or Tuesday (I get that it will be Tuesday, from my reading of the energy).

But what do I know about the outcome? At the level of ego, I simply do not know. And that is exactly how it always will be. I have had very positive guidance on this one. My gut feelings say "yes" (My fear says it will never happen. They will never employ someone like me. Look at how many rejections I have had over the years!)

As I write in my book Discover your Soul Template, whenever we reach forward to create something which takes us beyond our comfort zone, the entire process inevitably triggers the unresolved issues that lie dormant within our psyches. This in turn will activate psychic dramas with those indviduals, living or dead, who were involved in the creation of those issues. This means that your consciousness field will be exchanging 'energy' with those individuals. The drama is actually an opportunity for healing, and a step 'forward' in terms of your spiritual evolution. The thing is bringing awareness to what is going down; being able to assume responsibility for your part in the drama; and especially being able to witness the drama without judgment. The latter point is crucial, as there is nothing more important to the development of spiritual maturity than being able to maintain mindfulness during difficult times. True healing requires bringing the parts of the mind which are attached to the past (including its traumas) fully into presence.

The whole situation with my job interview has pushed certain of my buttons. Unresolved spiritual issues about worthiness and fairness have arisen. They are biographical (childhood) and karmic(past lives). I have allowed the feelings and energy from those issues to surface. This means allowing the feelings of inadequacy and shame to surface, and the anger and blame that goes with them. But after all is said and done, in the end there is simply the knowing that...

... to be human is to be vulnerable.

We do not know what the next year, week, day or moment will bring. It takes great courage to accept that.

Interestingly, on a somewhat related note, I had a vision a month ago. I saw a newspaper headline which said "Katich sacked." Simon Katich is a very good Australian cricketer. He has been Australia's most consistent batsman over the last year. Interestingly as I looked at the headline, the name "Katich" kept morphing into "Hilditch" - the surname of the Chairman of the selection committee of the Australian cricket team. When I awoke from the dream, I felt both these guys were going to get the axe. Then two days ago I opened a newspaper to see that Simon Katich has indeed been dropped from the team. It has created a media storm in Australia and internationally in cricket circles. Many are incensed that one of Australia's best performing cricketers has been fired. Some are calling for heads to roll - especially that of the Chairman of Selectors, Andrew Hilditch.

Of course, when it happens, I won't say "I told you so." That would be far too arrogant.

Why Sports Games are Decided Before A Whistle Sounds

Shane Watson celebrates. Yet how much control did he really have?

I have written once or twice about how I believe that the outcomes of sporting events are actually determined before the game is played – at least much of the time. I have had so many premonitions about sporting events over the years that I now know that this is true beyond any reasonable doubt. The only thing that I am undecided about is whether some games remain undecided until some key point in the game.

I don’t have too much time to watch sport these days, but I do have a subscription to an ESPN cricket channel, so have been following some recent games of cricket between Australia and England. The English team is currently touring Australia, playing well over a dozen games. This year I decided to put my Integrated Intelligence  to the test empirically, and see if I could pick the outcomes of the games.

To sense the outcomes, I have relied upon two sources of “data”.

The first is dreams, visions and images which come into my head. Some of these occur independently of my will, such as when I am sleeping. For example, two nights ago, just before Australia played England in a game, I had a brief dream about the game. These dreams almost always occur just before I awaken, as it did on this occasion. The dream was actually a combination of thought, auditory commentary, and some visual images. I saw two Australian players, and the information was that one had played well in helping Australia win, but a second player had batted before him had actually done most of the hard work. He was the one who had won the game.

When I awoke and recalled the dream, the first thing I did was project my consciousness into both the dream and the upcoming game to get an affective sense of whether they represented the truth of what was about to happen. This is the second source of intuitive information I use to sense sporting outcomes, what I call The Feeling Sense (see here for more details about these processes). As soon as I did this, I got a very strong sense that Australia would win the game. It was a very clear and strong signal. There was no doubt in my mind that Australia was going to win the game. That game would start about four hours later.

An interesting thing is that one of the two Australian players whom I saw in the dream (Dave Warner, the one who was going to be the match-winner) was not even playing in the game. So the dream could not be taken literally. Yet what I have learned to trust is the overall energy of such premonitions. The one “law” of premonitions that I was given by spiritual guidance (also in a dream, by the way) some years ago is that precognitive dreams are typically metaphoric and symbolic in nature. To understand them, you have to learn how to decipher their symbolism.

In this sense the precognitive dream is a model of what is about to unfold, but may incorporate both literal and metaphoric elements.

So when I looked at the idea that Dave Warner was going to be the main contributor, my sense was that it actually referred to a very similar player, who was playing in the same position that day (an opening batsman named Shane Watson). If you play close attention to dreams and visions, the literal person in a dream may actually represent someone with a very similar overall energy or consciousness. This is because the psyche recognises energy first, details second.

For me, watching games where I feel I know the outcome is fascinating, because as I watch I can sense what is about to happen much of the time. For example, I just know that there is no chance that a particular batsman is going to be dismissed by the bowler in the immediate future, because there is simply no energy on it. Watching rugby, I can often sense when a side is about to score, because the energy of the score is already present in the current moment. The energy of emotive future events reaches back in time, as was suggested by a recent paper published in The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

One of the most interesting things about yesterday’s game was that England batted first, and began smashing the Australian bowlers all over the ground. It was one of the most awesome displays of batting seen in recent times. So, after about a quarter of the game England had nearly 200 runs. For those who don’t know much about cricket, that would be a bit like, say, a basketball team leading 40 points to 5 after the first quarter. For all intents and purposes the game looked to be over, and the Australian team was playing like a bunch of schoolboys. Really, it was one of the worst displays of cricket by an Australian team in recent years. Totally amateurish stuff. The Australian commentators were actually getting a bit agitated by all the errors being made.

And yet, as I projected my consciousness via the feeling sense into the end result of the match, the energy of the outcome remained unchanged. I just knew that Australia was going to win. I found this fascinating – watching a team getting thrashed, humiliated, burned, but knowing that they were going to win in the end. So I did something I haven’t done for years. I stayed at home the whole day and watched all seven hours of the game from start to end, including the lunch break (cricket is a long game!). This would be worth seeing.

By the end of their batting innings, England had scored 295 runs, which is an incredibly high score. Then came Australia’s turn to bat, and no team had ever scored that many runs to win a game at that ground in the history of cricket. I watched with great fascination as the innings unfolded. And yes, Australia did score the necessary runs to win the game right at the death.

As it turned out, that player Shane Watson smashed a record 160 runs, batting undefeated through the entire innings to help Australia win.

I have used this system of sensing the outcomes of games for the last 7 cricket internationals involving Australia and England. I am being completely honest when I tell you I got six outcomes right, but once I was wrong. That one time I felt Australia was going to win the 5th test (game) in the recent series. Austrlia actually got thrashed in that game! The reason (I suspect) is because I had made that prediction four games in advance (yes, I “saw” the energy on the four upcoming games, and got the first three, but not the fourth). It could also be that, as an Australian, I let my personal biases overcloud my judgment. It must also be considered that energy shifts are more likely the further we go into the future. It’s the butterfly effect – small actions taken now effect what will happen down the line. But after making that mistake I went back to picking one game at a time, and have gotten them all right since. Here’s how the games went. There are actually three different formats of cricket, but I won’t bother to distinguish them here).

  • ·         England (huge win)
  • ·         Australia (huge win – few picked it after the first game)
  • ·         England (huge win – see previous point!)
  • ·         England (huge win – this one I got wrong)
  • ·         England (last ball win – quite literally)
  • ·         Australia (very narrow win)
  • ·         Australia (the aforementioned very narrow win after England looked like thrashing Australia early on).

What does all this mean? If you can suspend disbelief for a moment and consider the possibility that we can sense the future, the implications of what I am writing about here are enormous.

Firstly, it means that much – some might say all – of what is happening today – is effectively predestined. Think about it. If what I am saying is true, and you really can sense the results of sports events in advance, then the only question is just how much is actually predestined. Is it only the final outcome? Or is every last detail pre-programmed in advance, including every shot hit, basket sunk or goal scored?

Another possibility is the one I prefer to accept at this point in time. Precognitions – including divinations and The Feeling Sense – pick up probabilities – not the actual event itself. This is the most acceptable hypothesis to me, because, as an intuitive, I receive daily guidance from spiritual sources, including prompts to get me to acknowledge things that I am ignoring, or to assist me in making wise choices. I also ask for guidance about choices I am about to make, and always get some kind of information back in return, even though sometimes it is deliberately vague (Spirit prefers you learn for yourself, rather than be spoon fed, because evolution of consciousness is the prime goal of the “system”). If all events were set in advance spiritual guidance would be pointless.

In many ways, the spiritual journey is one of moving from unconsciousness – automatic and conditioned egoic responses – to full awareness of what drives our choices. This includes a movement from what we imagine is the reason for our choices, to the actual reasons. The ego is a trickster. It often believes it has control, when in fact it may have little or none.

Given that much of what is about to unfold is inevitable, and that we can receive guidance regarding what to do about it (including the choices we have available) I believe the best approach reality – to life - is to relax into the moment wherever possible, free from the chattering mind. This is where Integrated Intelligence is most reliable, where we can sense who we truly are at a spiritual level, and where awareness of the forces pulling upon us is most readily perceived. And this is not to even mention the fact that the present moment is where we free ourselves from the ego and its chattering monkey mind.

It’s worth some reflection.

Is the Future is Calling You?

“The state of empirical psi research continues to advance while the state of skepticism continues to stagnate. It doesn't take precognition to guess who will eventually win that type of debate. How long ‘eventually’ will be depends on how many people are actively engaged in research.”

Dean Radin (reference)

Last Saturday evening I was walking past a bar in the Central district of Hong Kong, when I noted a game of rugby on the flat screen TV inside. Now I’m a bit of a rugby fan, being a former player, and since the game was between Australia and the New Zealand All Blacks, I ducked inside to check it out. To my great delight I saw that the game was already in the second half and that Australia was leading 22-9, with just 30 minutes to go. As an Aussie, this was too good to miss, so I sat down and ordered a glass of red wine as a pre-celebration drink for the impending great Aussie victory over the mighty All-blacks. A few minutes of viewing allowed me to see that Australia was dominating the game, and the All-blacks were being run all over the park. The NZ team looked like a complete rabble, like a ship without a captain. On the other hand Australia looked very sharp.  They looked certain winners, for to lose it would require a roughshod NZ team, who had been completely outplayed, to score two converted tries in the last 15 minutes.

At that point I did what I often do when watching sporting events. I measured the energy on the outcome using the Quick Check. I have found that this divination method is extremely reliable for picking the outcomes of sporting events (although if I am ‘following’ one of the teams, I sometimes get over-excited and get the reading wrong). I didn’t get the reading I expected or wanted. There was no ‘energy’ on Australia winning the game.

Allow me to backtrack a little.

The first time I realised that sporting events are actually determined before the opening whistle is even blown, was when I had a dream during the 1991 rugby world cup. One night during that time I had a dream where I saw the English captain Will Cahling being interviewed and thanking his supporters for the tremendous victory they’d had. The next day I learned that England were playing Australia, so I stayed up to watch the match with my flatmate. Even though at that time I had not really developed none of my ability in Integrated Intelligence, I felt strongly that the dream was a precognition. As the match progressed, Australia took the lead, and stayed there. In the final minute of the game, Australia was leading by one or two points, and they had the ball in hand (which means England would not be able to score). I told my flatmate that Australia would lose the ball and England would win. Well, I was only half right. An Australian player decided to kick the ball, and England took possession. It was literally the final second of the game, and he was on the half way line, way out near the sideline. I watched bemused as he ran backwards (away from Australia’s tryline, where he was supposed to be running!), suddenly pivoted, turned round, dropped the ball onto his foot. The dropkick straight sailed over the goal posts from an impossible position. Never looked like missing.

The full-time siren sounded. England had won. There followed a few ads, then Will Cahling appeared and thanked the English supporters, just as I'd 'seen' the night before. (As an aside, my flatmate was a die-hard science graduate and skeptic, and refused to accept that my prediction had been anything more than good luck, after I told him how I ‘knew’. I was a skeptic too at that time – but an open-minded one).

Another precognitive vision of a sporting event which I had was symbolic (in fact many precognitive dreams occur in symbolic form). It occurred just before the 2004 cricket world cup. Australia went into that competition as the reigning champions, but had lost a lot of games, including a warm-up game against a low-ranked team, and many people wrote them off. However, I had a dream which convinced me they were going to ‘wipe the floor’ in that competition. As I was half asleep thinking about the competition one night, a vision came to me of a giant wild boar, running towards the tryline on a rugby field. The image was of an unstoppable force (imagine being a rugby player and trying to tackle a great boar charging towards you!). I just knew that the boar represented the energy of the Australian team, and that it symbolised their path through the upcoming competition. The vision was true. Australia smashed all other nations and went through the competition undefeated.

I have also had many premonitions involving my participation in sports events. One Saturday morning about 15 years ago, when I was to play a game of rugby, I awoke and heard the song “You go and save the best till last” being blasted into my head (I often hear these songs to this day).  I felt strongly that it was to do with the game I was going to play. When I got to the playing field I was very disappointed to find I had been put on the reserves bench. I was a bit pissed off to tell you the truth, but remembering the song I had heard that morning, I decided to be patient and kept my mouth shut. I waited, and waited... Half time came and went, and the game was drawing to a close. Then with just two minutes left the coach threw me onto the field on the wing (which is where I played anyway). I had barely run on, when our half back made a short break in our own half. Bypassing my two inside centres, he sent a long cutout pass to me, perfectly timed, such that I was into open space. I ran the thirty metres or so to the line without a hand placed on me, and scored. There was no time for a restart, and the game was over. The best had indeed come at the last moment.

After I was taught the Quick Check, I became able to predict the outcome of most games before they even began. Or even during games. I remember that during the 2005 soccer world cup, I rang my wife, and she said she couldn’t talk because she was watching a game, and they were having a quick penalty shoot-out at the end. I did a Quick Check and told her Korea would win the shoot-out, and that she needn’t bother watching. I was right.

So, last Saturday as I watched the Australia/New Zealand game, I was somewhat shocked to ‘read’ that there was no energy on Australia winning the game, despite their dominant position with the minutes counting down. Sure enough though, New Zealand scored two late converted tries, and completely against the run of the game, ‘got out of jail’. They won by one point, 23-22.

I now know that most, if not all sporting events are determined before a ball is kicked, hit or touched down.

Even the specifics of individual plays are largely determined. One morning when I was to play a game of cricket, I awoke, and the number ‘26’ appeared in my mind’s eye.
